Post secondary institutions pay you through the use of Soccer Scholarships.  Understanding how to apply for them will depend on the league you would like to play in.  You likely already associate funding with the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).  The NCAA divides their soccer programs into three divisions which are denomininated as Division one,  two and  three schools.

You will hear the  names of the divisions commonly named “D1”, “D2” and “D3” schools.  While you can apply to D1 and D2 schools, Soccer Scholarships are not given by Division Three (D3) schools for either mens or womens teams. D1 Mens Soccer Schools can give out 9.9 scholarships and D2 can give out 9 scholarships. As far as Womens College Soccer Scholarships are concerned the D1 schools can give 14 womens soccer scholarships and the D2 schools can give 9.9 womens soccer scholarships. For more NCAA soccer information see the NCAA soccer site at http://www.ncaa.com/search/soccer

However NCAA schools are not the only schools in North America where you can apply for soccer scholarships. You can also apply to four other leagues in North America that can give out scholarships.  These leagues are the  NAIA or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (http://www.naia.org/), the NJCAA or National Junior College Athletic Association (http://www.njcaa.org/landing/index) , the CIS or Canadian Interuniversity Sport (https://usports.ca/en) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (http://www.ccaa.ca/landing/index).

The NAIA schools can give out 12 team soccer scholarships to both men and women players.  The NJCAA mens and womens  programs can provide you with one of eighteen soccer scholarships.  The CIS and CCAA give out varied amounts of soccer scholarships depending on the athletic departments of the various schools and your marks and your choice of study. Canadian Colleges would already provide you with funding for up to eighty percent of your tuition.

Applying for soccer scholarships can be confusing - just look at the questions that need to be asked in this infographic!                                                                                      HOW YOU CAN APPLY FOR SOCCER SCHOLARSHIPS

Soccer Scholarships often require other methods of Funding!

You will find most Soccer Scholarships will depend on added methods of funding and qualifications.  For example you can tie soccer scholarships to your gpa or specific field of study.  In conclusion, this is why it is much more important for you to build a responsible recruitment plan, rather than focussing on a soccer scholarship.

The Importance of the completion of a College Soccer Recruitment Plan!

Your  recruitment plan will focus on you as an individual instead of just  a uniform number.  It will take in to account not only your  soccer ability – but also your marks, community service skills and leadership ability.  Soccer scholarship monetary amounts vary per school, and rarely will cover your complete tuition cost. A College Soccer Recruitment Plan adds monies to a scholarship to fullfil the majority of your funding needs.

An attractive recruitment plan can even include funding from your employer and lock in soccer experience in other countries.  My players have played both in North America and in Europe and you might want to do that to.  You could attended the fall semester  for your soccer team in North American Schools, and do classes online while playing your professional soccer in Europe in the Spring. In conclusion your soccer career choice likely will not be as succesful without a plan. Contrary to popular belief -building your College Soccer Recruitment Plan can actually be a lot of fun!  If you are concerned where our experience regarding collegiate soccer markets was acquired see https://universityprepsoccer.com/#about

Go through the coach of the target school you are looking at. Usually if it is large school – try the coach – but if you cannot get a reply – politely try the assistants until you get some help. Virtually all the schools
our players have gone to have a staff that will provide you with help. Remember you do not necessarily need a scholarship to find funding that is based on your soccer skills….

      Regards

You would want to contact the varsity club coach for their application process – contact can be through email and their website – but check your leagues contact procedures – remember scholarship monies that are posted – do not always go to players for tuition. Many North American University clubs play overseas or internationally – I have witnessed clubs reverting scholarships monies to travel budgets. – Leagues have soccer scholarships – you should also try your local league – regardless of where you are playing within the United States Soccer Pyramid.

    • universi says:

      You are welcome!
Just remember if you don’t find a varsity team – look at club and semi pro…
they often have been better fits for our players!

Hi. I’m from Botswana in Africa. I’m completing my IGCSE in 3 months. Is there any chance that I could apply for a soccer scholarship for the 2019/20 school year? Soccer has always been my passion and I am determined to make a career out of it. Any requirements needed?

    • universi says:

Whether or not you apply for a scholarship for the 2019/2020 season depends heavily on your school of choice.
If you are looking at the USA or Canada the varsity clubs are already locking down their rosters. Just remember
varsity clubs are definitely not the only way you can raise funding for education….they only represent about
30 percent of the the opportunity. Club and Semi-Pro are also opportunities and may provide a better solution
for you educational funding….Just depends on you…and how motivate you are! Don’t give up – for those of
us who played at NCAA level – it made huge differences to our careers..
      admincoach Brad

  4. universi says:

Its on the site under master lists
Good luck with your career….please remember varsity teams scholarships only represent about 30% of the funding that’s out there.

    hi
    we live in Iran.
My son has a lot of interest in football. he is 9 years old and he is trained since he was 5 .
Considering that my son has a lot of talent and perseverance in this field, we are looking for better education and progress in it.
Please give me some guidance on how to apply for my child at the Canadian Football School

    • universi says:

Yes – he still has about 10 years to wait before applying for Canadian University or college clubs.
He needs to train hard, Iran has some good programs so go to the national organization http://ffiri.ir/
and look for training videos and practice sheets. If you are looking for a canadian school to put your child in I would recommend THE EDGE in Calgary Alberta, it is expensive but worth it https://edgeschool.com/.
I took a team from here to Seattle to play and they won the Canadian Championship for elite level.
      Good Luck

So i will like to have your direct contact to deal with you. Kindly give me the privilege to prove my self and you wouldn’t regret giving me the chance and gratitude. Your sincerely
    Isaac Amponsah

    • universi says:

Isaac, you come from a great football nation – and I recognize the pro-names – especially those who play in the English Premier League. Some of the players who played with my clubs were from Ghana and were really nice kids. They had no problem finding money for school in both the USA and Canada. Also if you watch the UPREP vs USSDA clips in Seattle from ten years ago -you will see pro players who play in USA and England in the videos – only the players were very young then… I encourage you to find a team – but I no longer form teams. I have offers to take players into Northern Europe for pro-contracts but at this time we are not forming teams. Best to watch the site and wait for updates – we seem to get offers on a daily basis. Don’t give up your football and don’t ever stop smiling!

    • universi says:

Sadly even though most people go along – there are really large amounts of people that do not make an effort to try the semi-pro and club soccer markets. There is some work involved to set yourself up for funding in these areas, but the rewards are definitely worth it. Our players enjoyed varsity yes, but they also enjoyed both the semi-pro and club soccer playing also.

      Cheers

  15. Fadi Shohdy says:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

    Good day.

My name is Fady Shohdy , I am a 17 years old Egyptian male from Cairo who is in his senior year in high school .

I am applying at your reputable University that I am certain with its strong Bachelor’s program will help me to fulfill myself in both professional and personal contexts.

I am currently finishing my last year of high school where I have spent a lot of time and effort learning subjects which reflect my preferences and interests such as Humanities , the English language, and subjects in the technological field.

I am also very interested in teamwork, and therefore participate in organizing school events and supporting friends and classmates. I feel these activities will be the way in which I can make a difference and gain the leadership skills necessary to reach my goals.

In addition, I would like to develop my sporting skills, as I am a current football player in a local football club in Cairo called Misr lelmakkasa . And I am interested in completing this path as a member of your football university team

Football helps me to develop myself as a team player and cultivate the leadership skills necessary for my future career. I learnt to be responsible not only for myself, but also for the whole team, which I believe is essential not only in football but in every aspect of life.

I hope I am eligible for a sport scholarship from your kind university, whether it’s full or partial

Please see the below video which illustrates some of my football skills which

    https://youtu.be/-SJhD1FhDU8

Finally I understand that studying abroad is going to be the most challenging step in my life so far, but I also believe I can withstand any problems I will face and make the most of the knowledge and experience. I hope to contribute my talents and efforts to your university and become a worthy member of the team.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and time

    Fady Mohamed Shohdy

    Hello Fadi:
University Prep at this time is not carrying a club that is active. We only provide the website for those who need the help understanding how to acquire money for education by using football/soccer. I hope this does not discourage you from trying to fulfil your dream of playing at a university level.

Go to the site and follow the basic instructions, there are thousands of links to schools….

Remember these things when you are doing it…..soccer scholarships are only about one third of the amount of money out there, there is much more opportunity than just varsity teams….and choosing the correct school for YOU is the most important part of the process…

    Good luck with your Career!

    • universi says:

hello Kelvin good to hear from you…If you are looking for Scholarships best to go through the site and pick the path you want to use – to get the scholarship. Hope you understand though there are other methods of getting funding for school that do not
have football as the “base” of the school scholarship. Kelvin you can get educational funding that is for such things as math or sciences – but you use football as the key to acquiring the scholarship…..You can also use football to set up a services contract with a company to acquire funding for education….
Good luck and keep training! Sorry I can’t return every email…the site gets hit over 1500 times a day…I could not answer all those emails…….:(

    • universi says:

It is not a university – but their are abouut 2400 schools listed on this site – you could pick any one of them…
      Good luck with your Football!

    • universi says:

usually its not the best players who get the scholarships – it is the players who work the hardest and stick to their recruitment plan. If you are already talented lucky you. We have players who play in the EPL and MLS – neither of them were the “BEST” players – they just worked harder than all the rest…… Good luck with your career..
